Description of key information

Toxicity testing of 4-vinylpyridine (4VP) to terrestrial plants was waived. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006, Annex IX Column 2, the equilibrium partitioning method was applied to assess the hazard to soil organisms in the absence of toxicity data for soil organisms. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006, Annex X, Column 2, studies on the effects of the substance upon terrestrial organisms need not be conducted unless the Chemical Safety Assessment indicates the need to investigate further the degradation of the substance or its degradation products. Expected release amounts of the substance are small enough so that the risk of adverse effects from exposure via terrestrial exposure is not excessive and is less than the amount associated with increased risk.
