Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Ethanol:
In an experimental study, the lower flammability of pure ethanol was determined to be 3.7%.
Isopropanol:
In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the flammability (contact with water and pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids) studies (required in section 7.10) do not need to be conducted as experience in use and handling has shown that the substance does not possess these properties.
In accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the flammability (solids and gases) studies (required in section 7.10) do not need to be conducted as the substance is a liquid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
highly flammable

Additional information

Based on data from the two constituents it is concluded that the reaction mass is highly flammable.

Ethanol:

In an experimental study, the lower flammability of pure ethanol was determined to be 3.7%.

Isopropanol:

Information regarding flammability of IPA was sourced from CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed), known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability. The CRC handbook states that the flammable (explosive) range in air of IPA, expressed as percent by volume, was 2 -13%. Based on the CLP classifications, the substance is a flammable liquid, Category 2, with a flash point <23°C and an initial boiling point >35°C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The reaction mass will be classified R11 according to 67/548/EEC and Flam. Liq. 2 H225 according to CLP as its initial BP is higher than 35 degrees C.
