Description of key information

Ethanol:
5% mass solution in water (at 20C): 56.4mN/m
Isopropanol
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the surface tension study (required in section 7.6) does not need to be conducted as surface activity is neither expected or predicted from structure, nor is it a desired property of the material.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Based on data from the two constituents it is concluded that the reaction mass does not have any surface active properties.

Ethanol:

Published experimental data on ethanol indicates that the surface tension of a solution of ethanol in water at a concentration of 1g/l will be similar to that of pure water.Ethanol does not therefore have surface active properties.
