Description of key information
In the key study (Abou-Donia, 1987), the LD50 in Gallus gallus domesticus (leghorn hens) was calculated to be 1.86 g/kg body weight.

Two studies were evaluated to determine the acute toxicity to birds (Abou-Donia 1987 (key); Fletcher and Smith 1973 (supporting)).
In the key study (Abou-Donia 1987), the LD50 in Gallus gallus domesticus (leghorn hens) was calculated to be 1.86 g/kg body weight. The test material was administered via gavage. All hens that died as the result of acute poisoning died 2 to 4 days after administration. Hens that developed acute toxicity and survived recovered between 3 and 4 days of dosing.
In the supporting study (Fletcher and Smith 1973), the LD50 in chickens was calculated to be 2.03 g/kg body weight. The test material was administered via gavage. Symptoms of anorexia, hyporeactivity and ataxia, protrusion of the crop, and bloody feces were observed in all animals that died. These reactions were noted shortly before death which occurred from 20-30 h after dosing.
