Spider silk proteins have a relative low log Pow value (ca. 1), indicating that they have no bioaccumulation potential and can be anticipated to be readily biodegradable.
Degradation products of spider silk protein are primarily peptides and amino acids, subsequently degraded to carbon dioxide and water which cause no harm to nature.
Thus, systemic availability of spider silk by aquatic organism following exposure at occupational exposure levels is without toxicological significance. Degradation products of spider silk proteins like peptides and amino acids are irreplaceable nutritional components for aquatic organism.
In conclusion aquatic toxicity testing of recombinant eADF4(C48-CS25C) protein from E. Coli (K12 HMS174(DE3)-plasmid pAMS029) fermentation and subsequent purification is considered as not scientifically (see attached justification).
