Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to column 2 of EC 1907/2006 Annex IX long-term toxicity testing shall be proposed if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms. Based on the results of the short-term tests, for the single components of the reaction mass ammonium sulphate, potassium sulfate and sodium sulphate respectively are of very low toxicity. For all three substances LC50values substantially higher than the EU and GHS threshold for classification as potentially dangerous for the environment (100 mg/L) were determined. Therefore and for reasons of animal welfare long-term studies on fish are considered as not necessary.

This is supported by a series of studies investigating the long-term toxicity of ammonium sulphate in fish reporting NOECs/LOECs considerable > 1 mg/L (OECD SIDS, 2007).
