Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The bulk density of reaction mass of ammonium sulphate and potassium sulfate and sodium sulphate is 1.09 g/cm³, and the tapped density is 1.17 g/cm³.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The key values of bulk density and tapped density are taken from the experimental data of the reaction mass of ammonium sulphate and potassium sulfate and sodium sulphate (Beneo-Orafti, 2010). In addition several data on the constituents is available: The relative density of ammonium sulphate is 1.77 g/cm³ at 20 °C (CRC, 2002). Both sodium sulphate and potassium sulfate have similar relative densities of 2.7 g/cm³ for sodium sulphate (Hawley, 1981) and 2.66 g/cm³ for potassium sulfate (CRC, 2005), respectively. A further study has determined the bulk density for potassium sulfate as 1400 kg/m³ (GESTIS, 2010).One study has documented the density of the reaction mass of ammonium sulphate and potassium sulfate and sodium sulphate as ca. 2.5 kg/L for crystals (suspension in ethanol), 0.70 – 0.95 kg/L (bulk density, untapped) and 0.8 – 1.05 kg/L (bulk density, tapped) (Ajinomoto Foods Europe SAS, 2009).
