Endpoint:
relative density
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is only stable in solution in a particular solvent and the solution density is similar to that of the solvent
Justification for type of information:
The substance as registered is always generated in situ as a gas dissolved in water, with concentration not exceeding 2%. The density of this solution will be, essentially, the same as that of pure water (i.e. d=1). Therefore, a further assessment of the density is scientifically unjustified.

Description of key information

Solution of chlorine dioxine generated in-situ at less than 2% in water (as registered): d = 1 (close to the relative density of water)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
1

Additional information

The substance as registered is always generated in situ as a gas dissolved in water, with concentration not exceeding 2%. No study was conducted to determine the relative density of the substance considering the relative density of the substance as very close to that of pure water, i.e. d=1. Therefore, a further assessment of the relative density is scientifically unjustified and this data is considered as key data for CSA purpose.

Note that a theoretical relative density of the solution was calculated to be 1.008, based on the data compiled from secondary sources on the pure substance (1.64 g/cm3 for pure ClO2liq) and considering a 20 g/L solution.

Other information : Several literature sources provide consistent data for the pure chlorine dioxide: a consensus value of 1.64 for Chlorine dioxide liquid at 0°C, and a mean value of 2.35 for the gas, can be retained.
