Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Acute toxicity of EC 903-161-3 to aquatic organisms was assessed for three trophic levels (algae, invertebrates and fish). Only for algae and aquatic invertebrates, aquatic toxicity data are available for this substance. Therefore, in accordance with Article 13 (1) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, a read across to C8-C10 alkyl phenol analogue of C10-C15 alkyl phenol was applied in order to cover the endpoint short term toxicity to fish. A detailed justification for read across is provided in the technical dossier (IUCLID, section 13).

In all available short-term toxicity tests, no adverse effects occurred within the range of the water solubility of the substance. No data are available on the chronic aquatic toxicity. However, given the low water solubility and high adsorption properties of the substance in combination with the absence of acute aquatic toxicity, adverse effects on reproduction are not anticipated for this substance.

Furthermore, activated sludge was not inhibited in a 3 hour respiration inhibition test (EC10 (3h) > 598 mg/L, nominal). Therefore disturbances in the biodegradation process of a sewage treatment plant are not expected for of EC 903-161-3.

In summary, EC 903-161-3 shows no adverse effects up the limit of water solubility and can thus be considered as not hazardous to the aquatic environment.
