Additional information

The toxicity of methyldiacetoxyisopropoxy silane (CAS No. 329039-38-5) to aquatic microorganisms was investigated in a study by Eickhoff (2002). This test was conducted according to OECD Guideline 209 (Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition test) under GLP conditions. The test substance was incubated in activated sludge for 3 hours at 20 ± 2 °C and the O2 consumption measured. The concentrations of the main hydrolysis products (isopropanol and acetic acid) were determined by means of GC. A significant hormetic response was reported with increasing test concentrations, showing that the substance (and degradation products) acts rather as a substrate for aquatic microorganisms than as a toxicant. Therefore, the 3h-EC50 was determined to be > 500 mg/L. The results from the toxicity control in the ready biodegradability study (> 25% biodegradation within 14 days (Eickhoff, 2002)) support this finding and therefore, no inhibition of aquatic microorganisms activity is expected.
