Additional information

Perchloric acid is a very strong acid, its pH is < 1. Based on this, and according to column 2 of REACh Annex VIII, the study does not need to be conducted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Skin irritation:

Based on its pH<1 Perchloric acid is classified as corrosive into category 1A (H314; causes severe skin burns and eye damage)according to the criteria of the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP) and as skin corrosive (C; R35 Causes severe burns) according to the criteria of the annex VI of the Directive 67/548/EEC.

Eye irritation:

No data is available. However, as the substance is classified as corrosive, no further test has to be conducted. As mentioned in the Guidance on the application of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, a skin corrosive substance is considered to also cause serious eye damage which is included in the hazard statement for skin corrosion (H314: causes severe skin burns and eye damage).
