Description of key information

EC50 (48h) = 0.39 mg/L for Daphnia magna
Nevertheless this endpoint is not used for PNEC-calculation as PNEC-values are calculated on the basis of a HC5-approach, except for PNEC aqua (intermittent releases).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no data for alcohol ethoxylate (C10-12, < 2.5 EO, CAS 67254 -71 -1) are available the acute toxicity on aquatic invertebrates is assessed on the basis of data from studies with three similar alcohol ethoxylates (C9-11, 2.5 EO; C12, 4 EO, CAS 9002-92-0 and C12-14, 2 EO, CAS 68439-50-9).

For all three analogue substances the immobilisation of the water flea Daphnia magna was investigated (Scholz, 1993; Scholz, 1997 and Stephenson, 1985). Two tests were performed according to EG-Guideline 92/69/EWG and GLP (Scholz, 1993 and Scholz, 1997), whereas one study followed no defined guideline and was not performed under GLP conditions (Stephenson, 1985). The evaluated EC50 (48h) of the three studies are in a narrow range between 0.39 mg/L and 2.5 mg/L.
