Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.
Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. in case of frostbite water should be lukewarm, not hot. If symptoms persist, call a physician.
Skin: Rapid evaporation of the liquid may cause frostbite. If there is evidence of frostbite, bathe (do not rub) with lukewarm, not hot, water. If water is not available, cover with a clean, soft cloth or similar covering. Call a physician if irritation develops or persists.
Ingestion: Unlikely route of exposure. As this product is a gas, refer to the advice for inhalation. Do not induce vomiting without medical advice. Call a physician immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media: Water mist, foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide.
Specific hazards during fire fighting: Contents under pressure. Heating will cause pressure rise with risk of bursting. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray. Substance is not combustible under normal conditions. However, the substance can ignite with mixed with air under pressure and exposed to strong ignition sources. Vapors are heavier than air and can cause suffocation by reducing oxygen available for breathing. Some risk may be expected of corrosive and toxic decomposition products. Fire may cause evolution of hydrogen fluoride.
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit. Exposure to decomposition products may be a hazard to health.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions:
Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Provide adequate ventilation. Vapors are heavier than are and can cause suffocation by reducing oxygen available for breathing. Avoid skin contact with leaking liquid (danger of frostbite). Use personal protective equipment.
Environmental precautions:
Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. The product evaporates readily. Prevent spreading over a wide area (e.g., by containment or oil barriers).
Methods of cleaning up:
Do not direct water spray at the point of leakage. Allow to evaporate.
Handling and storage
Handling: Handle with care. Pressurised container. Protect from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50 °C. Follow all standard safety precautions for handling and use of compressed gas cylinders. Protect cylinders from physical damage. Do not puncture or drop cylinders, expose them to open flame or excesive heat. Do not pierce or burn, even after use.
Storage: Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well ventilated place. Keep only in the original container at temperatures not exceeding 50 °C. Keep away from direct sunlight. Do not store together with oxidizing agents.

Containers should be protected against falling down.
Handle containers with care.
Exposure controls / personal protection
Hygiene measures: Avoid breathing vapors, mist or gas. Keep working clothes separate. Do not smoke.
Engineering measures: Local exhaust.
Repiratory protection: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment (positive-pressure supplied-air respirator).
Hand protection: Heat insulating gloves (Viton).
Eye protection: Goggles.
Skin and body protection: Wear impervious clothing (cold insulating gloves/face shield/eye protection).
The type of protective equipment must be selected according to the concentration and amount of the substance at the specific workplace.
The Honeywell OEL is 1000 ppm 8-hr TWA. The American Industrial Hygeine Asssociation has proposed a Workplace Environmental Exposure Level of 1000 ppm. We are not aware of any national exposure limit.
Stability and reactivity
Conditions to avoid: Pressurised containers. Protect from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50 °C. Substance can form a combustible mixture with air at pressures above atmospheric pressure. Do not mix with oxygen or air above atmospheric pressure.
Materials to avoid: Substance reacts with alkali metals.
Hazardous decomposition products: Pyrolysis products include hydrogen fluoride, fluorocarbons, other compounds containing fluoride.
Thermal decomposition: Hazardous decomposition products are formed under fire conditions. To avoid thermal decomposition, do not overheat.
Hazardous reactions: Hazardous polymerisation does not occur. Stable under normal conditions.
Disposal considerations
Dispose according to legal requirements. Best to recover or recycle. If this is not possible, destruction is to be in an approved facility which is equipped to absorb and neutralise acid gases and other incineration by-products.
