Additional information

According to Directive 67/548/EEC, when a substance is classified as corrosive and assigned R34, the risk of severe damage to eyes is considered implicit. Data are also available to indicate that the mechanism of respiratory toxicity is corrosivity, and the substance will be labelled as EUH071: ‘corrosive to the respiratory tract’.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: corrosive

Effects on eye irritation: corrosive

Effects on respiratory irritation: highly irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance causes visible necrosis through the epidermis and into the dermis of rat and mouse skin after application of the test substance for between 3 minutes and 1 hour. It is therefore classified as R34: causes burns under the criteria of Directive 67/548/EEC and Corrosive category 1B under GHS as reflected by Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.
