Additional information

Diethylenetriamine is a clear to slightly yellow liquid, freezing at a temperature of -39 °C and boiling at 207 °C. The substance has a density of 0.96 g/cm3 and vapor pressure of 21.3 Pa at 20 °C. The substance possesses three amino groups, which impart the potential for ionization of the substance in aqueous media. This behaviour is described by acid dissociation constants (pKa) of approximately 4.9, 9.4, and 10.1; and is also responsible for impartly very high water solubility (miscible). Diethylenetriamine has an estimated octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow) of -1.58 in its completely non-ionized state, and an estimated octanol-water distribution coefficient (log D) of -5.58 at pH 7. The substance is not classified as a flammable liquid, based on a closed-cup flash point of 96.7 °C, and has an auto-ignition temperature of 358 °C. Based on the absence of reactive functional groups, the substance is not regarded as exhibiting pyrophoric, oxidative, or water-reactive properties under typical use and storage conditions.
