Acute and chronic toxicity tests for fish, daphnids, and aquatic algae were conducted for diethylene triamine. Based on the inherent toxicity of the compound and disregarding toxicity studies that did not adjust to a neutral pH, the selected key studies for acute toxicity tests with fish, daphnids, and algae reported toxicity values of 430 mg/L (96 -hour LC50 for guppies), 32 mg/L (geometric mean of two 48 -hour EC50 values for D. magna), and 1164 mg/L (72-hour EC50 for P. subcapitata based on growth rate). Based on the inherent toxicity of the compound and disregarding toxicity studies that did not adjust to a neutral pH, the selected key studies for chronic toxicity tests with fish, daphnids, and algae reported toxicity values of 10 mg/L (28-day NOEC for guppies), 5.6 mg/L (21-day NOEC for D. magna), and 10 mg/L (72-hour NOEC for P.subcapitata). Of these toxicity values, the 21-day NOEC of 5.6 mg/L for D. magna was the lowest value reported, and this data point was used in the development of the PNECaqua.
