Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of diethanolamine was examined in a guideline study according to OECD 209  (BASF AG,1992, Rep. no 1/91/1168/08/1). In this short-term respiration test with domestic activated sludge the determined EC10 was >1000 mg/L (based on nominal concentrations). The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
