Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

Hydrolysis

According to structural properties, hydrolysis is not expected/probable. In addition, the substance is highly insoluble in water.

Biodegradation in water: screening tests

The substance is not readily biodegradable, according to OECD criteria (Read-Across to CAS 1, see IUCLID Ch. 5.2.1)

Biodegradation in sediment and surface water

Data waiving according to EC 1907/2006 Annex IX. The test substance was found to be poorly biodegradable in water. Hence, it is assumed that the results of simulation studies would not reveal any different findings. Therefore, simulation studies on surface water and sediments are not provided. Furthermore, the substance is not expected to be adsorptive. Therefore, simulation studies are scientifically not justified.

Biodegradation in soil

The substance is not classified according to GHS and shows no hazard to aquatic organisms. Thus, the use of the substance can be considered as safe and no testing is required according to REACH Annex IX, column 2. Furthermore, the substance is very stable and heteroagglomeration/aggregation with other particles with same material or other particle, e.g. organic matter, or to the interface between phases is very unlikely due to the very low water solubility, low log Kow value and non-occurrence of functional groups of the molecule.  Thus, simulation biodegradation tests in water, sediment and soil are not proposed, since no relevant new findings are expected from such investigations.

Bioaccumulation

Acumulation in aquatic organisms is not expected

Adsorption / desorption

The physio-chemical characteristics of the substance indicate that the substance will not adsorb to soil or suspended matter. The water solubility of the substance as well as the solubility in octanol and the resulting log Kow are very low.

Dispersion stability

The dispersion stability depends especially on pH and water hardness.

Regardless of pH, the pigment is categorized at 15h and 24h-sampling time as “unstable” in 10 mM Ca, representing high water hardness.

In 0 mM and at pH4, pH 7 and pH 9 thestability for samples was high at all sample points.

In 1 mM and at pH4 the stability for samples was high after 6 h and decreased to intermediate stability after 24 hours, whereas at pH 7 and 9 the stability was high during the entire test period.
