Relative density = density (kg/m3) / 999.975 (kg/m3) (density of water at 4°C).

The average density at 20°C ± 0.5 °C of the test item is 858 ± 1 kg/m3.

Conclusions:
The relative density at 20°C of alpha-pinene multiconstituent is 0.858 ± 0.001.
Executive summary:

The relative density of alpha-pinene multiconstituent has been measured according to OECD Guideline 109 and to EU Method A.3.

Using an oscillating densimeter, the relative density of the test item at 20 °C in reference with water at 4 °C (D20/4) was determined as 0.858 ± 0.001.

The result has been considered as reliable with restrictions because the test was performed in complinace with edicted guidelines giving scientifically valid results but some details are lacking in the report (no GLP, no report number, criteria of validity of the results not given).

Endpoint:
relative density
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Justification for type of information:
α-Pinene is a bicyclic monounsaturated monoterpene and (-)-α-pinene is an enantiomeric form of α-pinene. Therefore, data on (-)-alpha pinene can be extrapolated to alpha-pinene. (see read-across justification document in section 13).
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Type:
relative density
Density:
ca. 0.858 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:

Conclusions:
The relative density of (-)-alpha-pinene was determined to be 0.858.
Executive summary:

The test to determine relative density of (-)-alpha-pinene was conducted in compliance with OECD guideline 109 and the EU method A.3. Three measurements with a oscillating densitimeter gave a value of 0.858 for the relative density of (-)-alpha-pinene.

Considering that the test was performed in compliance with edicted guidelines giving scientifically valid results and as, no observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome, the results of the study were considered valid.

Description of key information

Relative density of alpha-pinene multiconstituent at 20 °C: 0.858 ± 0.001.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
0.858

Additional information

The relative density of alpha-pinene multiconstituent at 20 °C was determined in a study performed according to OECD guideline 109 and EU method A3 using an oscillating densimeter. The value was considered with a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) because the result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP and some details were lacking in the report.

However the relative density is valid for key value and supported by consistent experimental data obtained with (-)-alpha-pinene.
