Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Observe self-protection.
Remove victims from hazardous area. Immediately remove soiled or soaked clothing and remove it to a safe distance. Keep victim warm, in a stabilized position and covered.
Inhalation:
Possible discomfort: severe irritation of mucous lining (nose, throat, eyes), cough, sneezing, flow of tears.
Consult a physician immediately.
Move victims into fresh air.
Do not leave victims unattended.
Keep patient warm and at rest.
If breathing difficulties occur (e.g. severe continual coughing):
Keep patient half sitting with upper body raised. Consult doctor immediately.
If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice.
If not breathing, give artifical respiration, call a doctor immediately.
Formation of a toxic lung edema is possible if product continues to be inhaled despite acute irritative effect (e.g. if it is not possible to leave the danger area).
Symptoms may occur with delay.
Skin contact:
Wash off immediately with plenty of water.
If symptoms persist, call a physician.
Eye contact:
Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.
Continue rinsing process with eye rinsing solution.
Continue rinsing eye until arrival at ophthalmic hospital.
Protect unharmed eye.
Call ambulance. (keyword: chemical burn) Immediate further treatmentinophthalmic hospital/ by opthalmologist.
Ingestion:
Notify ambulance immediately (keyword: poisoning and caustic burn by acrolein).
Do not induce vomiting.
If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious).
Have patient drink plenty of water in small sips.
Do not leave victims unattended.
Keep warm and in a quiet place.
If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice.
Notes to physician:
Primarily serious irritation and damage of the eyes, mucous membranes and the skin are to be expected, especially in the presence of humidity.
Gastrointestinal discomfort.
Risk of pulmonary oedema.
Symptoms of poisoning may not appear for several hours. Keep under medical supervision for at least 48 hours.
Specific recommendations: none.
Therapy as for chemical burn.
Following inhalation:
Prophylaxis of a toxical lung oedema with inhalative steroids (Dexamethasone aerosol dosing spray, f.ex. auxilosone). Alleviation of throat irritation with antitussive cough mixture (hydrocodon hydrogen tartrate, e.g. Dicodid).
If substance has been swallowed:
If necessary Early endoscopy in order to assess mucosa lesions in the oesophagus and stomach which may appear.
If necessary gastric lavage, follow-up.
administration of activated charcoal.
Following contact with skin / Following eye contact:
Treatment: as from acid burn.
Keep under medical supervision for at least 48 hours.
Monitoring of haemogram.
Monitoring of liver function, kidney function.
Later control for pneumonia and lung oedema.
Fire-fighting measures
Water, water spray, quenching powder, carbon dioxide, quenching foam.
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:
Alkaline agent.
Specific hazards during fire fighting:
Risk of decomposition when exposed to heat.
In the case of fire, the following hazardous smoke fumes may be produced: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, flammable smouldering gases.
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:
Respiratory protective equipment independent of surrounding air and gas protective suit.
Further information:
Use water spray to cool unopened containers.
Ensure there are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire.
Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water.
Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Avoid contact with acrolein.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Wear complete chemical protective suit and Respiratory protective equipment independent of surrounding air.

Environmental precautions:
Do not allow entrance in sewage water, soil, stretches of water, groundwater, surface water.
Avoid penetration into drainage system or in rooms situated at a lower level because of danger of explosion.
Observe regulations on prevention of water pollution (check, dam up, cover up).
Cover spilt product with foam to prevent evaporation.
Methods for cleaning up:
Soak up with inert absorbent material and dispose of as hazardous waste.
Suitable binder: universal absorbent
Additional advice:
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.
Settle gases/fumes produced with water.
Cover with: special quenching foam.
Installation of an accidental prevention program required.
Handling and storage
Safe handling advice:

Ensure that apparatus and pipelines are free from leaks. Do not ventilate into the atmosphere .

The product should only be handled by trained personnel.
