Description of key information

Based on a vapour pressure of 0.06 hPa and a water solubility of 0.6 g/L a Henry constant of 1.4 Pa m³/mol can be calculated (HENRYWIN v3.10). This value indicates that 2-chlorobenzonitrile is moderately volatile from water.

From the calculated Koc of 162 (log Koc = 2.2) it can be concluded that 2-chlorobenzonitrile has only a low potential for adsorption to soil and sediments (PKOC v1.66).

Adsorption to aerosols is not expected. The adsorption of 2-chlorobenzonitrile to aerosol particles is less than 0.1

Distribution modeling using Mackay Level I (v.2.11, 1999) indicates that water (67 %) and air (32 %) are the main target compartments of 2-chlorobenzonitrile.
