Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: The test item (reconstituted water and test item) was freshly prepared. The test item was weighed into a calibrated flask and filled with reconstituted water. After stirring of 10 minutes, the test item was completely dissolved and the flask filled to the mark with reconstituted water.
- Controls: reconstituted water for Daphnia (ELENDT M4)
- Concentration of the test item in the test medium: 100 mg/L

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Daphnia magna
- Strain/clone: Daphnia magna (Straus)
- Age at study initiation: not older than 24 hours
- Method of breeding: The parent strain (stock) was bred and maintained in vessels containing many daphnids in different ages.
For a new study, young daphnids were separated in 100 mL of reconstituted water. Once a week, the medium was renewed and the daphnids were fed with fresch water algae. Newborn animals were separated and used for the acute immobilization study.

Daphnia exposed to the nominal concentration of 0.1 g/L (limit test) were not immobilized.

No remarkable observations were made concerning the appearance of the test material. All test media were clear preparations and stayed unchanged throughout the study.

EC50-value

Under the given experimental conditions, the test material showed a 48 h EC50 value of > 0,1 g/L.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Remarks:
OECD 202 validity criteria fulfilled
Conclusions:
Under the given experimental conditions, the 48 h EC50 value of the test item exceeded the limit dose of 100 mg/L
Executive summary:

The objective of this study was to determine the acute toxicity of the test material to Daphnia magna. For this purpose, young Daphnia magna were exposed to an aqueous test material concentration under defined conditions. The study comprised of four vessels per concentration containing five Daphnia magna , i.e. 20 Daphnia per concentration (test medium group). The Daphnia were observed for immobilization up to 48 hours. The study was started with the exposure of Daphnia to the test material concentration of nominal 0.1 g/L in an open system. An analytical determination of the concentration was not performed.

Daphnia exposed to the test item at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L were not affected.

According to the tested nominal concentrations the following values were obtained

24h EC50

> 100 mg/L

48h EC50

> 100 mg/L

Under the given experimental conditions, the test material showed a 48 h EC50 value exceeding the limit dose of 100 mg/L.
