First-aid measures
Observe self-protection
Remove victims from hazardous area.
Remove contaminated or saturated clothing immediately and dispose of safely.
Inhalation
If breathing difficulties occur (e.g. severe continual coughing):
Keep patient half sitting with upper body raised.
Formation of a toxic lung edema is possible if product continues to be inhaled despite acute irritative effect (e.g. if it is not possible to leave the danger area).
Move victims into fresh air.
Possible discomfort: severe irritation of mucous lining (nose, throat, eyes), cough, sneezing, flow of tears
Symptoms may occur with delay.
If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice.
Consult a physician immediately.
Skin contact
Possible signs of poisoning: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, seizures, unconciousness, respiratory disturbance, cessation of breathing, cardiac arrest.
Consult a physician immediately.
After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water.
Keep warm and in a quiet place.
Do not leave victims unattended.
In case of difficulties in breathing, supply oxygen.
Employ artificial respiration if breathing ceases.
Place person on side in stable position if unconscious.
Eye contact
Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water keeping eyelid open.
Continue rinsing process with eye rinsing solution.
Protect unharmed eye.
Call ambulance. (keyword: chemical burn) Immediate further treatmentinophthalmic hospital/ by opthalmologist.
Ingestion
Possible signs of poisoning: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, seizures, unconciousness, respiratory disturbance, cessation of breathing, cardiac arrest.
Notify ambulance immediately (keyword: cyanide).
Do not induce vomiting.
If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious).
Keep patient warm and at rest.
Do not leave victims unattended.
In case of difficulties in breathing, supply oxygen.
Employ artificial respiration if breathing ceases.
Place person on side in stable position if unconscious.
Notes to physician
Based on animal toxicological experiments, the following effects will have to be assumed: hydrocyanic acid poisoning, chemical burn
Specific therapy/antidote treatment as for cyanide.
Observe national methods of treatment.
Instructions on the attached additional information sheets are to be observed.
Further treatment:
Following eye contact
Therapy as for chemical burn.
Following inhalation
Prophylaxis of a toxical lung oedema with inhalative steroids (Dexamethasone aerosol dosing spray, f.ex. auxilosone).
Alleviation of throat irritation with antitussive cough mixture (hydrocodon hydrogen tartrate, e.g. Dicodid).
Fire-fighting measures
mist, foam, carbon dioxide (CO2)
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons
high volume water jet, alkaline agent, water
Specific hazards during fire fighting
In the case of fire, the following hazardous smoke fumes may be produced: acrolein.
Hydro-cyanic acid
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters
In the case of fire, wear respiratory protective equipment independent of surrounding air and chemical protective suit.
Further information
Use water spray to cool unopened containers.
Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water.
Contaminated fire-extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations issued by the appropriate local authorities.
Fire residues should be disposed of in accordance with the regulations.
Accidental release measures
Bring persons in safety. Keep persons at a distance and stay on the weather side. As a rule, work only with respiratory protective equipment.
Avoid contact with the following substances / substance categories:
Hydro-cyanic acid
Environmental precautions
Do not allow substance to enter soil, bodies of water or sewage canals.
Cover over drainage system. Avoid penetration into drainage system or in rooms situated at a lower level because of danger of explosion.
Methods for cleaning up
Densify gases/fumes produced with water. Ensure there are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire.
Additional advice
Cover with: special quenching foam.
When heated, formation of explosive vapour/air mixtures.
Handling and storage
Safe handling advice
Use only permissible in closed systems. Transfer and handle product in closed systems only.
The product should only be handled by trained personnel.
Use only explosion-proof equipment.
Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
When repairs of the production system are to be made (e.g. welding work), the section to be repaired must be essentially free of product.
Please note BG leaflet BGI 569: Hydrocyanic acid/cyanide when at work.
Advice on protection against fire and explosion
Combustible
Formation of flammable or explosive vapour/air mixtures possible.
Caution - electrostatic charge may occur.
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.
Risk of explosion.
Use water spray to cool unopened containers.
Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water.
Contaminated fire-extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations issued by the appropriate local authorities.
Ensure there are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire.
Fire residues should be disposed of in accordance with the regulations.
Retention of fire-extinguishing water in Germany: see FireExtinguishing Water Retention Directive "LoeRueRL":
Storage
Requirements for storage areas and containers
Suitable materials stainless steel (1.4571)
Avoid sun rays.
Storage capability limited; dependent on storage temperature.
Store under lock and key or in a way that only skilled persons have access to it.
well ventilated
Monitoring of ambient air necessary.
For transport, storage and tank installations only use suitable materials.
Advice on common storage
Do not store together with: acids and alcaline solutions.
Storage and handling in accordance with German Dangerous Substances Regulations (GefStoffV).
