Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Justification for type of information:
Experimental tests performed using standard test guidelines
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: as mentioned below
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Redox titrations are based on a reduction-oxidation reaction between an oxidizing agent and a reducing agent. A potentiometer or a redox indicator is usually used to determine the endpoint of the titration. In permanganometry a slight faint persisting pink color signals the endpoint of the titration because of the color of the excess oxidizing agent potassium permanganate
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories)
Key result
Sample tested:
other: not specified
Parameter:
other: Redox titration
Result:
92.3 other: mg/ml of KMnO4 per 100 g chemical
Interpretation of results:
other: mild oxidising property
Conclusions:
Test chemical was considered to be a mild oxidising solid since 92.3 ml of KMnO4 was the experimental end point obtained during the redox titration
Executive summary:

Test chemical was considered to be a mild oxidising solid since 92.3 ml of KMnO4 was the experimental end point obtained during the redox titration

Description of key information

Test chemical was considered to be a mild oxidising solid since 92.3 ml of KMnO4 was the experimental end point obtained during the redox titration

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

Test chemical was considered to be a mild oxidising solid since 92.3 ml of KMnO4 was the experimental end point obtained during the redox titration

Justification for classification or non-classification

Test chemical was considered to be a mild oxidising solid since 92.3 ml of KMnO4 was the experimental end point obtained during the redox titration

Thus, for the purpose of classification, test chemical is considered to be non-oxidizing.
