Additional information
An Algal Growth Inhibition Assay was performed (Huntingdon Life Science, 2015) to assess the effect of MTF on aquatic plants. The study was conducted according to OECD test guideline 201 and EC test guideline C3 and in compliance with GLP.
Algal cultures, with an initial cell density of ca. 1 x 104/mL, were exposed to MTF dissolved in algal nutrient medium at nominal concentrations of 0.0470, 0.150, 0.479, 1.53 and 4.90 mg/L; the highest test level approximated the limit of aqueous solubility of the test substance. The cultures were incubated in an orbital incubator under continuous illumination at temperatures ranging from 22.6 to 23.5°C for 72 hours. Due to the volatile nature of the test material, the study was conducted in sealed vessels with no headspace.
The 72 -hour EC50 was 0.760 mg/L based on growth rate and 0.810 mg/L based on yield. The 72 -hour NOEC based on both growth rate and yield was 0.415 mg/L.
