Additional information
With respect to the registrant's EU supply chain MTF is only imported as a monomer in polymers - the discreet or unreacted monomer is not present. Residual amounts of MTF in the prepared polymers are not significant (refer to "Monomer residue analysis" report in dossier section 13 - residual MTF was found to be less than the analytical Limit of Quantitation of 3 ppm).
On this basis it is considered that no exposure of MTF to the environment may occur through the registrant's European supply chain and therefore MTF does not present a risk to the environment.
Conclusion on classification
With reference to the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, as Adapted for Technical Progress by Regulation (EU) 286/2011 (second ATP to CLP Regulation), Annex 1, Table 4.1.0, MTF is classified as hazardous the the aquatic environment. The relevant acute LC50 or EC50 values for fish, crustacea and algae or aquatic plants are all within the range 0.1 - 1 mg/L with corresponds to a classification as Acute Category 1. With reference to table 4.1.3 of Annex 1, the corresponding M-factor the the acute hazard is 1.
With respect to the chronic hazard, no relevant long-term (chronic) data are available for MTF; the chronic hazard is therefore classified with reference to section (iii) of table 4.1.0. In the available ready biodegradability study MTF was found not to have degraded over the 28-day test period. As noted above, the acute L(E)C50 values for fish, crustacea and algae are all within the range 0.1 - 1 mg/L which therefore corresponds to a classifiation in Chronic Category 1 (M-factor = 1).
The corresponding signal word for labelling is "Warning" and the Hazard Phrase "H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects" should be applied.
