Description of key information

In tests conducted according to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids), bitumen samples were found to be not flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

not classified

Additional information

The samples melted to a black liquid, in some cases a few sparks were seen, but no propagation was observed in any sample.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The bitumen samples did not propagate burning over 200mm.

Based on the combustion propagation of less than 200 mm in 4 minutes, classification of bitumen as flammable is not warranted in accordance with the EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008).
