The relatively low
lipid solubility of Zr metal limits absorption through the skin. Soluble
forms of Zr are more readily absorbed since the metal ion is the entity
absorbed. Based on the animal and human data available, a read across
with ZrO2 data is possible as both insoluble and active forms did not
induce any sensitizing response.
A reliable study
(Klimisch 2) is available and tested the sensitization potential of
ZrO2, substance with the same behaviour as Zr: no effects were observed
in this test. This result is confirmed by the observations made on
humans exposed to several doses of ZrO2, with no skin reaction observed.
on the available data, the substance was not classified under the CLP
Regulation 1272/2008 and the directive Classification and Labeling
