Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
Guideline study (EU method A.10).
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
other: No ignition observed.

1. Measurement of flammability

1.1. Preliminary screening test

The test substance was formed into a powder train about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a fireclay plate. A hot flame from a gas burner was applied to one end of the powder train for five minutes. There was no igniton observed.

1.2. Burning rate test

Since the test substance did not ignite it should not be considered as highly flammable and no further testing is required.

2. Result

The test substance WO2 (tungsten dioxide) is non-combustible.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The test substance WO2 (tungsten dioxide) is noncombustible.
Executive summary:

A test according to guideline EU A.10 was conducted to determine the flammability of tungsten dioxide (WO2; > 99.8 % purity). In the preliminary test no ignition of WO2 could be observed. Therefore, further testing (-> burning rate test) was not required.

It can be concluded that the test substance WO2 (tungsten dioxide) is noncombustible.

Description of key information

In a preliminary test that was conducted according to guideline EU A.10 to determine the flammability of tungsten dioxide (WO2; > 99.8 % purity) no ignition of WO2 could be observed. Therefore, further testing (-> burning rate test) was not required. It can be concluded that the test substance WO2 (tungsten dioxide) is non-combustible.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

In the safety data sheet tungsten dioxide is not considered to be highly flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Tungsten dioxide is noncombustible, therefore no classification is warranted.
