Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
Guideline study (EU method A.16).
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks on result:
other: The test substance WO2 (tungsten dioxide) revealed no self-ignition at temperatures up to 400 ºC.

The temperature of the oven and sample were continuously recorded while the temperature of the oven was increased to 400 ºC at a rate of 0.5 ºC/min. No self-ignition occored, since the sample thermocouple showed no very sharp temperature rise above the oven temperature.

Conclusions:
The test substance WO2 (tungsten dioxide) revealed no self-ignition at temperatures up to 400 ºC.
Executive summary:

A test according to guideline EU A.16 was conducted to determine the self-ignition temperature of tungsten dioxide (WO2; > 99.8 % purity). The test substance WO2 revealed no self-ignition at temperatures up to 400 ºC.

Description of key information

In a test conducted according to EU method A.16 the test substance WO2 revealed no self-ignition at temperatures up to 400 ºC. WO2 cannot be considered auto flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Tungsten dioxide (WO2) is reported to be not auto-flammable in the safety data sheet.
