Additional information

The requirement to test the substance for octanol-water partition coefficient is waived because in contact with water the substance hydrolyses very rapidly to form silicic acid and methanol. The log Kow of tetramethyl orthosilicate has been calculated using a validated QSAR. Determining the log Kow of the silanol hydrolysis product, silicic acid is not scientifically meaningful, as is an inorganic.

Methanol has a measured log Kowof -0.82 to -0.64 (OECD 2004a).
