Description of key information

Bioaccumulation: aquatic/sediment: Low potential for bioaccumulation

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Testing is waived as direct or indirect exposure of aquatic organisms to the registered substance is very limited due to the instability of the substance in water.

Tetramethyl orthosilicate hydrolyses rapidly (t1/2= < 1 h at pH7and 25°C)

to (poly)silicic acid and methanol. Methanol is expected to biodegrade fast.

(Poly)silicic acid is an inorganic substance which enters natural biogeochemical cycles for silicon (refer to Annex I of CSR).
