Description of key information

(72-hour) EC50: >22 mg/l inhibition of growth rate and biomass Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, reliability 2 (read-across from CAS 78-10-4)
NOEC: ≥22 mg/l inhibition of growth rate and biomass Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, reliability 2 (read-across from CAS 78-10-4)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no reliable data for the substance. However a 72-hour EC50 value of >22 mg/l and a NOEC of ≥22 mg/l have been determined for the effects of the structurally analogous substance, tetraethyl orthosilicate (CAS 78-10-4),on growth rate and biomass of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata based on geometric mean measured concentrations. The corresponding values expressed relative to nominal concentrations were >100 mg/l and ≥100 mg/l respectively. It is likely that the test organisms were exposed to the hydrolysis products of the substance.

This read-across study is considered to be reliability 1 (reliable without restrictions); however the read across of the results is considered to be reliability 2 (reliable with restrictions)
