Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Dimethyl isophthalate is not a sensitiser in the murine local lymph node assay, nor in the guinea pig maximization test and human repeat insult patch testing. These data, taken together, are strong evidence that the substance is nonsensitising. The substance was used as a nonsensitiser in numerous validation studies of the LLNA method.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
The substance is non-sensitising in the LLNA.

Justification for selection of skin sensitisation endpoint:
experimental data generated by an experienced laboratory

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dimethyl isophthalate is not a sensitiser in the murine local lymph node assay, nor in the guinea pig maximization test and human repeat insult patch testing. These data indicate that the substance is nonsensitising. Therefore, the substance is not classified as a sensitiser according to Regulation EC No. 1272/2008.
