Description of key information

In the Key study entitled " Dimethyl Isophthalate: Acute Toxicity to the Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Determined Under Static-Renewal Test
Conditions" (Romine ABC, 2013) the estimated 96 hour LC50 value was 21.6 mg/L, with 95% confidence limits of 14.9 - 32.4 mg/L. The 96 hour
NOEC was determined to be 6.3 mg/L, based on a lack of mortality and sublethal effects at the lowest test substance concentration.

Additional information

Vertellus Performance Materials, Inc. contracted ABC Laboratories, Inc. to conduct a 96-hour static-renewal toxicity test with rainbow trout exposed to dimethyl isophthalate. The criterion for effect was mortality, defined as lack of gill movement and no response to physical stimulus. Based on nominal concentrations, the estimated 96‑hour LC50value was 21.6 mg/L, with 95% confidence limits of 14.9 mg/L and 32.4 mg/L. The 96‑hour NOEC was determined to be 6.3 mg /L, based on a lack of mortality and sublethal effects at the lowest test substance concentration.
