Description of key information

Geuijen (2001) was considered adequate and reliable for use in assessing the toxicity of 2,4,6-tribromophenol in terrestrial arthropods. The study was performed to both OECD guideline 213 and 214, the study was also GLP compliant.

Results: Some mortality was observed in the contact test with tribromophenol in the honey bee (<10%), however, this was less than the level of mortality observed in the solvent control. Mean Abbott corrected cumulative mortality was 0% at all doses. Contact LD50 was concluded to be above 100 ug/bee. The NOEC was set at the highest tested dosage, i.e. 100 ug/bee.

Dosing orally, tribromophenol induced some mortality (<10%). At the highest tested dosage (actual dosage 112 ug/bee) mortality was 7% after 48 hours. There was no mortality in the solvent control. Hence, the oral LD50 for Tribromophenol is above 112 ug/bee. The NOEC was set at the highest tested dosage, i.e. 112 ug/bee.
