Description of key information
Teunissen (2001) was considered adequate and of high reliability for fulfilment of the data requirements under the endpoint Toxicity to birds for short-term exposures. The study is performed to accepted guidelines (EPA OPP 71-1 and EPA OPPTS 850.2100) and is GLP compliant.
Key value for chemical safety assessment

Reliability: 1
Results: No mortality was observed in any of the treatment goups or the control group. In all dose and control groups, liquid faeces were noted. This was found to increase in duration at 61 mg/kg bw and above. At doses of 61 mg/kg bw and higher, hunched and abnormal posture, abnormal gait and quick breathing was noted during day one and/or two. All animals recovered within three days, with the exception of females of the 61 mg/kg group in which effects on posture and gait persisted up to the end of the study. No test substance related effects on body weight or body weight gain were noted in any of the dose groups when compared to the control group. Macroscopic examination of the birds showed a thickened and enlarged forestomach in one male dosed at 2000 mg/kg bw, no further abnormalities were found in the other animals.
