Description of key information

Surrogate material: experimental value: 6mg/l
QSAR: insoluble (<0.1mg/l)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

An experimentally derived value is available on a surrogate material. However, this value is considered to be high and unrealistic for a relatively high molecular weight hydrocarbon substance such as the one referred to in this dossier. Accurate measurements of the water solubility of high molecular weight hydrocarbons are notoriously difficult. QSAR values predict values some 8 -9 orders of magnitude lower. The solubility of this substance is predicted to be in the range 0.1 -1.0picogrammes/litre. Even the starting materials have water solubilities predicted to be well below 0.1mg/l. Bearing this in mind, it can be concluded that the substance is highly insoluble in water (water solubility <0.1mg/l)
