- partition coefficient
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 2002-05-14 to 2002-05-16
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- comparable to guideline study
- Remarks:
- Deficiencies: The HPLC test was terminated one day after the expiration date of the test item. The expiration date was therefore excluded from the statement of compliance. However, the determination of the partition coefficient by the HPLC method is independent of minor changes of the purity of the compound. Therefore, the result of the test was regarded as valid.

- Conclusions:
- Using the HPLC method according to OECD test guideline 117 the log Pow of the test item was determined to be 1.6 at 25 °C.
- Executive summary:
The determination of the partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) of the test item was performed according to the Regulation (EC) 440/2008 Part A, A.8 "Partition coefficient" (1992) and the OECD guideline No. 117, "Partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method" (1989). Based on the model calculation during the preliminary test, the log Pow was estimated to be 1.4. Therefore the HPLC-method was chosen to conduct the main test. Six common standards, which have known log Pow values in the range of 1.1 to 6.2, were used as reference standards during the main test. Using the corresponding log Pow values of the reference items from the OECD guideline, the regression coefficients were calculated. The log Pow value of the test item was calculated from the calibration equation to be 1.6. Due to an error in lab coordination, the HPLC test was terminated one day after the expiration date of the test item. The expiration date was therefore excluded from the statement of compliance. However, the determination of the partition coefficient by the HPLC method is independent of minor changes of the purity of the compound. Therefore the result of the test was regarded as valid.
