Description of key information

An explosiveness study with the substance tert-butyl peracetate was waived as the substance is classified as Organic Peroxide Type C and not as Organic Peroxide Type B.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Tert-butyl peracetate has no explosive properties because it is not classified as Organic Peroxide Type B (reference CLP regulations 2.15.2.2 and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, 17th revised edition, Section 2.5.3.2.4. See also ECHA guidance on the application of the CLP criteria, section 2.14.) Tert-butyl peracetate is classified as organic peroxide Type C. The classification of organic peroxides into one of the seven categories of “Types A to G” is given in decision logic Figure 2.15.1 of CLP, based on the test series A to H, as described in the Part II of the UN-MTC. See endpoint 4.13 Flammability.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) tert-butyl peracetate is classified as Organic Peroxide Type C with H242 (heating may cause a fire).
