Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Type of information:
other: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
The complete read across justification is detailed in section 13. Test substance is an isomer of the substance under registration; structural difference is not expected to significantly impact the toxicity to aquatic invertebrates. Source study has reliability 2: only limited information available from a migrated NONS file, as per Article 25(3) request.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
No information on the method is available.
GLP compliance:
yes
Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Test type:
not specified
Water media type:
freshwater
Remarks on exposure duration:
No information available
Dose descriptor:
EC50
Effect conc.:
ca. 228 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
not specified
Conc. based on:
not specified
Basis for effect:
mortality
Remarks on result:
other: no data on test duration

Information from migrated NONS file, as per Article 25(3) request, with permission to refer granted by ECHA.

Conclusions:
EC50 = 228 mg/l.
Executive summary:

Method

Test conducted according to OECD gudeline 202. No details on the method are available. The information derived from migrated NONS file, as per Article 25(3) request, with permission to refer granted by ECHA.

Results

EC50 = 228 mg/l.

Description of key information

EC50 = 228 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water invertebrates

Fresh water invertebrates
Effect concentration:
228 mg/L

Additional information

Due to the lack of data on Direct Blue 273, a read across approach was followed.

In a study on toxicity to daphnia magna according to OECD guideline 202 using Similar Substance 01, i.e. an isomer of Direct Blue 273 differing only for the position of a functional group on an aromatic ring, a EC50 of 228 mg/l was found. Based on the structural similarity, such value was considered as representative also for Direct Blue 273.

Further details on the read across approach are included in section 13.
