Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
other: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
The complete read across justification is detailed in section 13. Test substance is an isomer of the substance under registration; structural difference is not expected to significantly impact the toxicity to fish. Source study has reliability 2: only limited information available from a migrated NONS file, as per Article 25(3) request.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method C.1 (Acute Toxicity for Fish)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
No information on the method is available.
GLP compliance:
yes
Test organisms (species):
Cyprinus carpio
Test type:
not specified
Water media type:
freshwater
Total exposure duration:
96 h
Duration:
96 h
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
ca. 46 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
not specified
Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Conclusions:
LC50(96h) = 46 mg/l (nominal)
Executive summary:

Method

Test conducted according to EU method C.1. No information on method is available. Available data derived from migrated NONS file, as per Article 25(3) request, with permission to refer granted by ECHA.

Results

LC50(96h) = 46 mg/l (nominal)

Description of key information

LC50 (96h) = 46 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water fish

Fresh water fish
Effect concentration:
46 mg/L

Additional information

Due to the lack of data on Direct Blue 273, a read across approach was followed.

In a 96 -hour study on toxicity to fish according to EU method C.1 using Similar Substance 01, i.e. an isomer of Direct Blue 273 differing only for the position of a functional group on an aromatic ring, a LC50 of 46 mg/l was found. Based on the structural similarity, such value was considered as representative also for Direct Blue 273.

Further details on the read across approach are included in section 13.
