Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

The skin sensitization was analyzed in a study performed under GLP according to OECD guideline 406, where twenty Dunkin-Hartley Guinea pigs were induced intradermally with a concentration of 0.5% and and topically with a concentration of 50%, respectively. The first challenge was done topically with a concentration of 10% on day 22, while a concentration of 50% for the second challenge was used. As result, 8 of 20 animals showed a sensitizing reaction. Thus, the frequency of animals responding positively exceeds 30% and the test substance was found to be sensitizing to skin.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Vanadyl pyrophosphate was found to be a skin sensitiser.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data, the substance vanadyl pyrophosphate needs to be classified:

DSD: sensitizing, R43

CLP: sensitisation category 1
