Description of key information

One calculation by a standard QSAR method and two experimentally determined partition coefficients for related substances (rosin and rosin, hydrogenated) indicate that the partition coefficient of Resin 835 A is >6.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
6.5
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The logPow of Resin 835A is high if the substance is in the undissociated state. The dissociation constant was calculated to 5.1, see section 4.21, so that at environmentally relevant pH in the neutral range the sparingly dissoluted substance will be in the dissociated state, which would result in a much lower logPow.

The test item is a UVCB substance.

A partition coeffcient n-Octanol/water of 6.45 to 6.55 was calculated by a standard QSAR method. The experimentally determined partition coefficient for the chemically closely related substance Rosin (CAS 8050-09-7) was between 3.0 and 6.2 and it was between 1.9 and 7.7 when the pH was adjusted to 2. For Rosin, hydrogenated (CAS 65997-06-0) a partition coefficient of 2.3 to 8.3 was determined experimentally and between 2.5 and 7.6 when the pH was adjusted to 2. For read-across see "Assessment Reports: Justification for read-across (RA-A)."
