Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Two experimental results are available.

Water solubility (OECD 105,  EU method A.6), mean = 478.8 g/L at 20 °C.

Water solubility (OECD 105), mean = 407 g/L at 20 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
478.8 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Test 1:

The flask method was used.

The temperature of the water bath was 10.0 °C respectively 20.0 °C.

The pH of the solutions were 0.3 to 0.5 at 10 °C and 0.2 to 0.3 at 20 °C.

The difference between the concentrations of the test substance of day 1 to 3 at 10 °C
and 20 °C was < 15 % and the concentrations of the test substance showed no relevant tendency. Therefore the mean of day 1–3 was taken as the solubility of the test substance at both temperatures, according to the guidelines.

The water solubility of maleic acid was determined to be:
Mean: 399.4 g/L, standard deviation: 18.5, replicates of three days, temperature 10.0 °C.
Mean: 478.8 g/L, standard deviation: 21.8, replicates of three days, temperature 20.0 °C.

As the temperature coefficient of the solubility of the test substance was < 3 % (i.e. 1.8 %) per °C, the solubility was not determined at three temperatures, in agreement with the guideline.

Test 2:

Water solubility, mean = 407 g/L at 20 °C.
