PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

DEIPA is not considered to meet the criteria for persistence (P), as it was seen to be readily biodegradable in a good quality guideline study. DEIPA has a Log Pow of -1.01, below the bioaccumulation screening criteria Log Kow value of >4.5, so does not fulfil the criteria for bioaccumulation (B). In support, QSAR models predict a BCF in fish far below the cut-off of 2000. A low level of aquatic toxicity is predicted for DEIPA, based on several reliable short-term ecotoxicity studies, and the substance is not classified as CMR, for chronic toxicity or as a STOT RE. As such, DEIPA does not fulfil the criteria for toxicity (T).

It is concluded that DEIPA does not meet the criteria for a PBT or a vPvB substance as outlined in REACh Annex XIII.

Likely routes of exposure:

Exposure of the environment to DEIPA is not expected as the substance is produced in a closed process, then incorporated into cement at very low concentrations.
