Description of key information

non flammable
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Based on flash point and boiling point, the substance is a non flammable solid. Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected. A study performed with a similar substance alcohols, C12-14 (even numbered), ethoxylated (1 - 2,5 EO) sulphated, sodium salts (CAS No. 68891-38-3) according to EU method A.10 is a further confirmation that the test item and other similar alcohols ethoxylated sulphated in the category are non flammable on ignition.

Flash point: 174 °C at 1013 mBar (EU A.9, closed cup).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive, but not sufficient for classification:

Based on the flash point and boiling point, supported by EU A.10 test with a similar category substance, the substance is non flammable.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
