Description of key information

In the key-study an EC50-value for daphnids of 7.4 mg a.s./L could be determined after 48 h of exposure.
Nevertheless that endpoint is not used for PNEC-calculation as PNEC-values were calculated on the basis of a QSAR-model for chronic toxicity.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

For AES (C12-18, 1-2.5EO) Na (CAS 68081-91-4) no acute test on aquatic invertebrates is available. Thus, as a worst-case assumption read-across is prepared to a study conducted on daphnids with alcohol C12 -14 ethoxysulfates. In that study Daphnia magna were exposed to different concentrations of alcohol ethoxysulfates (2EO) (purity of the test substance. 71.5% a.s. and 69.7% a-WAS) in a static system according to the guidelines OECD 202 and EG Guideline 92/69/EWG under GLP-conditions (Scholz, Sasol, 1993). In that study an EC50 (48 h)-value of 7.2 mg/L based on a-WAS (corresponding to 7.4 mg a.s./L) could be determined.
