Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

The skin sensitization potential of alcohol ethoxysulfates (AES) was evaluated in several Guinea Pig Maximisation and Buehler Tests with guinea pigs considering different exposure concentrations. The AES reported within the AES category show similar structural, physico-chemical, environmental and toxicological properties. The approach of grouping different AES for the evaluation of their effects on human health and the environment was also made by the Danish EPA (2001) and HERA (2003), supporting the read across approach between structurally related AES. For details please refer to the category justification attached in IUCLID section 13. In summary, all tests showed that AES have no skin sensitizing potential. Hence, no classification is warranted.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Skin sensitisation (OECD 406): not sensitising

Justification for selection of skin sensitisation endpoint:
No study selected as weight of evidence-approach was used.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on skin sensitisation do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification.

No data available for respiratory sensitisation.
