PNECS were derived for freshwater, saltwater, sediment, soil and micro-organisms using the HC5 model plus statistical extrapolation or equilibrium partitioning calculations.

Conclusion on classification

Data was not available for 3a,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-4,7 -methano-1H-indene, therefore available data has been read across from 3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydro-4,7 -methanonoindene.

The most conservative acute result was for aquatic invertebrates. One report showed a toxicity value between 0.1 and 1 mg/l, however other reports showed toxicity above 1 mg/l. All of the information was considered adequate for assessment but had limitations. In accordance with REACH Guidance to Regulation on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures the geometric mean has been calculated. This result shows a toxicity value of 4.4mg/l. This would result in a classification of Aquatic Chronic Category 2 with the hazard phrase “Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects”.
